Z06 models commemorated a century for the rental car corporation
It’s no wonder why the sleekness and speed of the Corvette has made it a favorite vehicle among fans of pop culture. Prince scored a 1983 hit “Little Red Corvette” and Mark Hamill made his film debut in “Corvette Summer.” With such social credentials, car rental corporation Hertz even used a hundred of those vehicles, in particular a rare Z06 model, to celebrate a century of existence in 2018.
Now Hertz is unloading the famed automobiles the company made available during that anniversary period to any fan who wants one. Throughout the year, those hundred Z06 units were made available at airports across the U.S., each with a few thousand miles registered on their odometers. The highest reported mileage was on a car rented throughout the year in San Diego, at 7,873.
The bodies of these beasts are adorned in yellow with black racing stripes and wheels, oddly enough the same colors as the Hertz logo. When they were available as rentals, bookings were solid, especially in Los Angeles and San Francisco, despite a limit of 75 miles a day and a $300 daily rental fee before additional charges were imposed.
It’s of little wonder. Whether the consumers were gearheads or looking for a hot vehicle to turn heads, most of them were attracted not only by the look of the cars, but what was also under the hood. The Z06 boasted a 6-2 liter supercharged V-8 engine that could generate 650 horsepower to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It also featured a few interior amenities like black upholstery and yellow accent stitching with commemorative badges to celebrate Hertz’s century of being a player in the car rental industry. The dash also included a Bose sound system with 10 speakers, an eight-inch touchscreen and online features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
If interested, check out the Hertz sales URL for updates on when these hot wheels will be up for grabs. Hertz has yet to indicate a date for the sale although word has it the price will be between $90,000 and $100,000, depending on the condition of each vehicle.
Hertz reported that the price range was due to the rarity of the vehicles, since these versions were the only ones ever made, meaning they could increase in value over time. To put that into perspective, a previous model used by Hertz, the 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H, is now worth around $200,000.
